Get To Know One Of Calgary’s Best Wedding Videographers

Meet Oscar Lima, one of Calgary’s best wedding videographers. Oscar is the owner and artistic director of Castaño Films, a Calgary based wedding videography business. As voted by Avenue Magazine’s readers, Castaño Films was the first place winner for best wedding videography services in 2024 and won runner up in both 2025 and 2026. Alongside him is his wife, Janelle Gerestein, the owner and artistic director at Flowers by Janie. Married for over 15 years as of 2025, this entrepreneurial duo has built both a life and creative career together.

Recently, Quiana Cheng, the Flowers by Janie marketing coordinator sat down with Oscar and Janie for an intimate interview. She asked them about the origins of their wedding businesses, how their paths intertwined 15 years ago, and their perspectives on love and long term partnerships.

To experience their warmth, and chemistry firsthand, we invite you to watch the full interview video below, where their story unfolds naturally in conversation alongside their adorable fur baby, Tali.

This blog expands on details not covered in the video and focuses primarily on Oscar’s perspective. For a fuller picture, we encourage you to also read Janie’s perspective in her corresponding blog post here.

Castaño Films – Wedding Cinema with Personal Meaning

At the heart of every wedding video that Oscar films and edits is intention. Not only in how it looks, but how it feels. Every frame, movement, and sound is chosen for a reason.

His love for cinema began long before he entered the wedding industry. It’s rooted in his appreciation for visual language and how films can communicate deep emotions beyond simple words. With formal training in Bolivia, his birth country, and Canada at the SAIT institute, Oscar brings a timeless, cinematic approach to his wedding videos that gives couples an experience worth reliving.

What drives his work is based on personal experience. Like many couples, Oscar and his wife Janie didn’t have a wedding film of their own — something they both deeply regret. To him, a wedding video is not just documentation, it’s a time capsule full of personal touches. It’s a way to hear voices of loved ones who may no longer be in this world, and a way to relive how the day felt.

Oscar’s Perspective On Love

To Oscar, love is the quiet yet joyful choice to put another person first, so fully that sacrifice no longer feels like sacrifice at all. This philosophy began in November of 2008 in La Paz, Bolivia, his home and where he met Janie at his church. He was instantly intrigued by her perspective, curiosity and life experiences that felt refreshingly different from his own. This fascination grew into admiration for her commitment to their relationship and instinct to care for others. He feels a steady sense of security with Janie.

Over time, Oscar found that her generosity has shaped her work through Flowers by Janie, where her beautiful creations are able to give back to communities by donating florals to those in need. Her blend of intention, creativity, and heartfelt actions makes loving her, and building a life with her, feel meaningful and effortless to him.
